Project Abstract

eople are always trying to do the right thing.  Fair trade coffee, chocolate, fruits, and other goods taste exactly the same as non- fair trade items and have a social benefit component that is easy to get on board with.   But despite the easy access to fair trade coffee in grocery stores or specialty coffee shops, people continue to choose regular non-certified items.  It can be argued that the lack of awareness about Fair Trade can be contributed to four different aspects of the movement.  The first is the slightly higher cost of fair trade that can be mostly be deterred by education, the lack of which is another issue towards Fair Trade’s mainstream status.  Due to the Fair Trade movement relying mostly in the non-profit sector there is a lack of agreement on the stipulations that constitutes a product to be Fair Trade and a lack of accountability to companies that claim to be providing resources and a just fair wage to farmers and workers.
