Project Description

“The primary goal of the food pantry is to provide free food to UC San Diego students who are experiencing food insecurity, ” said the Triton Food Pantry initiator, Muir College Dean of Student Affairs Patty Mahaffey. However, the food stocks in the food pantry are non-perishable food, such as cans of soups, pasta, and jars of peanut butter. The Triton Food Pantry currently does not provide fresh vegetable and fruits. The purpose of my project is to investigate what are Triton Food Pantry currently doing to enhance the food options it provides. In addition, explore the barriers and bridges of utilizing food resources on campus, such as Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) and campus gardens, to help Triton Food Pantry better realize food justice at UCSD.
