Project Abstract

This video summarizes my research into Colony Collapse Disorder and its relation to global warming. By analyzing a study conducted at the University of Ottawa, I was able to observe how global warming has altered the climate that the bees rely on, causing their habitable zone to shrink. If I had more money and time, I would have conducted interviews with those in the field. It would have great to hear from those who study bees, global warming, or both. In addition, if I had the resources, I would dive further into the science of the loss of habitat. My focus was on North America, but this is an event that will impact the entire population. At the end of the video, I talk about Burt’s Bees and how they are trying to educate the public. They are operating on a large scale, but if I had had the time, I would have taken a look at what’s going on in the San Diego area. Then I would have been able to provide my target group with this information if they wished to pursue it further. Another element I would have improved would be the video I used. With limited video skill, I utilized copyright free clips. In a more professional setting, it would be wise to rent high quality equipment in order to produce a high quality video. Overall, I am proud of the work I have done and the skills I have acquired in science communication.
